Is the KiwiCo Panda Crate Worth It?
The Panda Crate is the odd one out in KiwiCo's range. Every other line is monthly, aimed at kids old enough to build something. Panda is for 0 to 24 months, ships every two months, and costs more per crate than anything else KiwiCo sells.
That last point confuses a lot of people, because most comparison articles quote one brand-wide KiwiCo price. Panda does not use it. Here is what it actually costs, what turns up in the box, and the plan structure worth reading twice before you click.
Quick verdict
| What it is | KiwiCo's line for 0 to 24 months, in five age bands, shipped every two months with roughly double a normal crate's contents |
| Price | $42 per crate, which works out to $21 a month or $252 a year at the single-crate rate |
| vs Lovevery | Lovevery is $88 every two months for 0 to 12 months, so roughly double Panda per month |
| The trap | Annual pay-as-you-go is a 12-month commitment billed monthly, and it is easy to mistake for month to month |
| Good for | Parents who want a steady stream of age-matched toys without researching every purchase |
| Less good for | Anyone who already has a lot of baby toys, or who wants to cancel mid-term on a prepaid plan |
What the Panda Crate actually is
- Age range: 0 to 24 months, split into five bands at 0-2, 3-6, 7-12, 13-18 and 19-24 months
- Ships every two months, not monthly. KiwiCo's own wording: these deliveries will arrive at your home every other month instead of monthly
- Each crate holds roughly double what a monthly crate contains, grouping more toys and materials for a two-month stage
- Three content tiers: Essentials, Plus and Deluxe. Plus adds 1 to 2 grow-with-me products per crate. Deluxe adds Plus plus a specially curated book
For context, KiwiCo's other lines are monthly and aimed older: Koala Crate at 3 to 6, Kiwi Crate at 6 to 9, Tinker Crate at 9 to 12. Panda is the only line for under-3s and the only bi-monthly one.
What is actually in a crate

Two real examples, taken from KiwiCo's own product pages rather than from a review.
Let's Sense, the 2 to 3 month band
| Tier | Contents |
| Essentials | Spiral Toy Holder, High-Contrast Wood Book, Hanging Toy Set, Wood Rattle Set, Crinkle Book, Grownup Guide |
| Plus adds | Ocean Explorer Baby Activity Wedge |
| Deluxe adds | Car, Car, Truck, Jeep sing-along book |
Let's Discover, the 4 to 5 month band
| Tier | Contents |
| Essentials | Soft Rattle Blocks (four soft blocks with different colours, patterns and rattle sounds), Wood Transfer Discs, Silicone Teething Ring, Rainbow Crinkle Cloud, Bath Book, Knot Ball, Grownup Guide |
| Plus adds | Wibble-Wobble Shape Stacker and Double Spinning Drum |
| Deluxe adds | Colors board book |
So Essentials is six to seven items including the Grownup Guide. At $42 that is roughly $6 to $7 per item, though we could not confirm which tier the $42 buys. More on that below.
The pricing, and the plan that catches people out
Confirmed from KiwiCo's own support documentation: most subscription lines start at $24 per month. Panda Crate is $42 per crate, shipped once every 2 months.
The four plan structures
| Plan | Commitment? | How it bills |
| Monthly | No | Billed each month, cancel after the first crate ships |
| Quarterly | Yes | Paid in full at checkout for 3 months |
| Annual | Yes | Paid in full at checkout for 12 months |
| Annual pay-as-you-go | YES | A 12-month commitment, billed monthly at a smaller rate |
That fourth row is the one to read twice. Annual pay-as-you-go is billed monthly, which makes it look like a rolling monthly plan. It is not. It is a 12-month commitment, and KiwiCo states plainly that subscriptions cannot be cancelled in the middle of a prepaid term. If you are seeing complaints about KiwiCo auto-renewals and being unable to cancel, this plan is the most likely explanation.
The arithmetic
- $42 per crate divided by 2 months is $21.00 per month
- Six crates a year at $42 is $252.00 per year at the single-crate rate
- Against KiwiCo's other lines at $24 a month, Panda works out lower per month at $21, but higher per crate at $42 versus around $24
- Prepaid plans are stated to carry discounts, measured against the standard single-crate price plus shipping, but no discounted per-crate figures are published anywhere
- US shipping is free for subscribers
What we could not verify, and you should check at checkout
Being straight with you: kiwico.com's Panda Crate page would not load for us, and the product pages render the tier prices as From /crate with the number stripped out. So these are open questions.
- Whether $42 buys Essentials, Plus or Deluxe
- Per-tier prices for Essentials, Plus and Deluxe
- Discounted per-crate rates on the quarterly, annual and annual pay-as-you-go plans
- Whether a 6-month prepaid plan exists. KiwiCo's pricing page omits it, but its cancellation and gifting pages both reference semi-annual or 6-month terms. KiwiCo's own documents disagree
Ignore third-party price pages on this brand. One subscription aggregator simultaneously shows $120 a month and $24 a month for KiwiCo. Another review site lists $42 bi-monthly in one place and $40 per crate with an annual subscription in another, plus historic figures from older reviews. Use $42 as KiwiCo's stated number and verify the rest yourself.
What KiwiCo claims, and what is actually established
Separating these matters, so we are labelling them clearly. The following are KiwiCo's claims, not established findings:
- The line is grounded in the science of early childhood development
- KiwiCo worked closely with researchers at Seattle Children's Hospital to make sure products and information suit a baby's developing brain
- Products and information are developed and tested to be developmentally appropriate for specific age ranges
- Per-product claims such as the Wood Transfer Discs engaging both sides of the brain, the Knot Ball increasing dexterity, and the Double Spinning Drum encouraging bilateral coordination
- The Grownup Guide contains research-backed guidance, development milestones and activities to try at home
What we found by way of independent validation: nothing. No peer-reviewed or third-party study evaluating Panda Crate outcomes exists that we could locate, and we could not find a Seattle Children's page confirming the collaboration from their side.
That is not an accusation. Toy subscriptions are rarely studied and the absence of evidence is normal for the category. But if the developmental claims are the reason you are buying, know that they rest on KiwiCo's word rather than on published research. Anything about your own child's development is a conversation for your paediatrician, not a review site.
Safety

Relevant here because this is a 0 to 24 month line, which is the age group where small parts matter most.
What KiwiCo publishes
- US testing to the appropriate ASTM standards, naming ASTM F963 for toy safety and ASTM D4236 for labeling of art materials
- International products may meet CE marking under EN 71 for the EU, UKCA for the UK, and Canada's CCPSA, depending on market
- KiwiCo states it does not self-certify and uses certified independent third-party testing laboratories
- Stated hazard checks: choking, sharp edges, toxic materials and structural integrity
- Chemical testing checks paints, dyes, adhesives and other materials are within safe limits for heavy metals and harmful substances, though no specific results or thresholds are published
- Panda product pages state items are free of BPA, phthalates and lead, with non-toxic water-based paints and finishes
One gap worth flagging honestly. KiwiCo's safety page makes an explicit small-parts statement for the Koala Crate, aimed at 3 to 6 year olds: zero small parts that could pose a choking risk. It makes no equivalent Panda-specific statement, which is notable given Panda is the line for babies. KiwiCo does say component sizing is assessed for the intended age group, but the explicit guarantee only appears for Koala.
On recalls: we checked the CPSC database and found no KiwiCo recall. The only Kiwi result is a 2010 infant apparel recall by Kiwi Industries, which is an unrelated company. Do not confuse the two.
Cancelling, pausing and gifts
This is where KiwiCo generates most of its complaints, so read it before signing up rather than after.
Auto-renew
KiwiCo's own words: all KiwiCo subscriptions are set to auto-renew by default.
Cancelling
- Log in, click your name at the top right, go to Subscriptions, click Manage, then Cancel your subscription and follow the prompts
- Deadline: you must cancel by 11:59 PM EST on the day before your renewal billing date. Later cancellations apply to the following cycle
- Monthly plans can be cancelled any time after the first month ships. If you cancel after being billed for the next crate, that crate still ships but you are not billed again
- Quarterly, semi-annual, annual prepaid and annual pay-as-you-go: you can turn off renewal any time, but subscriptions cannot be cancelled in the middle of a prepaid term
- If a crate is in process, you may not see the cancel option until after it has shipped
KiwiCo does not address refunds on prepaid plans anywhere we could find.
Pausing
- You can pause one month yourself from account settings. The account stays active, no charges or shipments happen during the pause, and it resumes automatically
- Customer Care can pause for up to three months at a time if you ask
There is no skip function. KiwiCo documents pausing and cancelling only. If you want to skip a specific shipment, pausing is the mechanism.
Gift subscriptions
There is a specific non-renewing option, and you have to choose it deliberately. Go to the Gifting page at the top of the site, pick the subscription, then click Learn about our non-renewing subscriptions and choose a term of 3, 6 or 12 months. It expires at the end of the prepaid period and needs no cancellation.
A standard renewing subscription continues past the prepaid term unless cancelled. KiwiCo does not explicitly state whether a regular gift subscription auto-renews, so given the global auto-renew-by-default policy, choose the explicitly non-renewing option if you do not want it to continue.
What parents actually say
Trustpilot, the largest independent source
KiwiCo sits at 3.6 out of 5 across 5,017 reviews, with 161 in the last 12 months. The distribution is 80% five-star, 6% four-star, 2% three-star, 2% two-star and 10% one-star.
That shape is worth noting. 80% five-star with a 10% one-star tail is polarised, not a consensus. Recurring complaint themes are auto-renewal problems and difficulties cancelling active subscriptions, charges continuing after a pause or cancellation, certain toys breaking easily during normal use, some items non-functional out of the box, significant delivery delays and missing packages, and customer service that is either quick and helpful or unreachable with nothing in between.
Note that this is company-wide KiwiCo, not Panda-specific.
Subscription review sites, with a disclosure
Handle these carefully. The main subscription review site covering Panda discloses that it receives commissions on purchases made through its links, its Panda links go to affiliate tracking domains, and its reviewers received free boxes from KiwiCo in exchange for feedback and photos. Treat that coverage as sponsored.
With that caveat, what those reviewers reported: similar items on Amazon costing more than the crate price, one estimating a 4-month crate's retail value at nearly $70 for $39.90 paid. Build quality praised, specifically a weighted tissue box, suction feet on a bead maze, food-grade silicone and a wood teething ring. Attention held well, with black-and-white cards working at 2 months, a crinkle panda a favourite at 4 and 6 months, a coin box puzzle the biggest hit at 11 months, and a spin-and-slide board carried everywhere by a 21-month-old. Criticisms were minor: a Knot Ball too large for a young baby to use yet, and rattle blocks slightly loud.
How much independent feedback exists? Very little
That same site shows 0 ratings and 0 reviews from its own readers on its Panda hub page. We found no usable Reddit discussion specific to Panda Crate. The BBB profile would not load for us, so we are not quoting a rating or complaint count.
So the honest position is this: there is a lot of sponsored Panda content and almost no independent user feedback in public. Nobody has credible data on whether parents end up with duplicate toys, or whether a 0 to 2 year old gets enough out of it. The only related signal is that Knot Ball note, which suggests in-band age fit can still miss.
How it compares on price
Price and model only. We are not comparing developmental merit, because nobody has the evidence to do that honestly.
| Option | Price | Per month |
| KiwiCo Panda Crate | $42 every 2 months | $21.00 |
| Lovevery Play Kits, 0-12 months | $88 every 2 months | $44.00 |
| Lovevery Play Kits, 1 to 4 years | $132 every 3 months | $44.00 |
| KiwiCo's other lines | From $24 per month | $24.00 |
So Lovevery runs roughly 2.1 times Panda's monthly equivalent. Whether that premium buys you more is a separate question we cannot answer with published evidence, but the price gap is large and worth knowing before you compare them as equals.
We could not get current, verified prices for Monti Kids, the Hape subscription or Little Partners, so we are not quoting figures for them. One secondary source references Monti Kids being priced near $300, but we could not confirm it and could not confirm the company is still trading. Check directly before considering it.
The other honest comparator is simply buying individual toys. The only number available for that is the sponsored estimate of around $70 of retail contents for a roughly $40 crate, which should be read with its affiliate disclosure attached.
Returns, missing parts and shipping

Returns
- Individual crates bought from the Store section are returnable, unused and undamaged
- Subscription crates are NOT eligible for return. Neither are crates purchased with a bulk discount
- Returns must be initiated within 60 days of the original purchase date for a full refund
- All return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility. KiwiCo recommends trackable shipping and is not responsible for packages lost or damaged in transit
- Include your order number, account name and reason, with everything in original packaging
KiwiCo does not state whether refunds go to the original payment method or as store credit.
Missing or damaged parts
Email customercare@kiwico.com with your order number, the email on your account and a brief description. KiwiCo does not publish what happens next or any timeframe, which is a gap given how often this comes up.
Shipping
- US: free for active subscribers to any US address including Hawaii, Alaska and APO/FPO/DPO. Non-subscribers get free Store shipping on orders over $75
- International: over 40 countries, charged at checkout per crate. Deluxe subscription orders add $2.00 USD per crate
- Customs, taxes and duties are the customer's responsibility, collected at checkout where required. UK 20% VAT, EU VAT 18% to 27% by country, Australia 10% duty, New Zealand 15% duty
- Sample per-crate subscription shipping: Canada $5.95, UK $5.95, Australia $9.00, New Zealand $9.95, Japan $7.95, Singapore $10.95, Norway $11.95, South Korea $36.00. Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Hungary and Czech Republic are free. France, Italy and Ireland are $1.95
So is it worth it?
Here is the honest split, based on what is verifiable.
It makes sense if
- You want age-matched toys arriving without having to research each purchase, and $21 a month is a comfortable number for that convenience
- You are at the start of the age range, where KiwiCo's own crate contents genuinely map to developmental stages that change fast
- You value the Grownup Guide as much as the toys, since every crate includes one
- You are comparing against Lovevery, where Panda is roughly half the monthly cost
Think twice if
- You already have a lot of baby toys. Nobody has published data on duplication rates and the crates include common items like rattles, teething rings and crinkle books
- You want flexibility. There is no skip function, prepaid terms cannot be cancelled mid-term, and subscription crates cannot be returned
- You are buying for the developmental claims specifically. They are KiwiCo's claims and we found no independent validation
- You want to see unbiased reviews first. Most Panda coverage is sponsored, and there is almost no independent user feedback available
FAQ
How much is the KiwiCo Panda Crate?
$42 per crate, shipped every two months, which works out to $21 a month or $252 a year at the single-crate rate. That is different from KiwiCo's other lines, which start at $24 a month. Prepaid plans carry discounts but KiwiCo does not publish the discounted figures.
What age is the Panda Crate for?
0 to 24 months, in five bands: 0-2, 3-6, 7-12, 13-18 and 19-24 months.
Can I cancel a KiwiCo subscription any time?
Monthly plans, yes, after the first crate ships. Prepaid plans including annual pay-as-you-go cannot be cancelled mid-term, though you can turn off renewal. Cancel by 11:59 PM EST the day before your renewal date or it applies to the next cycle.
Is annual pay-as-you-go a monthly plan?
No, and this is the main thing to understand. It is a 12-month commitment that happens to be billed monthly. You cannot cancel in the middle of it.
Can I skip a KiwiCo crate?
There is no skip function. You can pause one month yourself from account settings, and Customer Care can pause for up to three months at a time if you ask.
Has KiwiCo ever been recalled?
No. We checked the CPSC database and found no KiwiCo recall. The 2010 infant apparel recall by Kiwi Industries is an unrelated company.
How does Panda compare to Lovevery?
On price, Panda is $42 every two months and Lovevery is $88 every two months for the 0 to 12 month kits, so Lovevery is roughly double per month. On anything beyond price, neither company's developmental claims have independent validation that we could find.
Bottom line
At $21 a month equivalent, the Panda Crate is reasonably priced for what arrives: six or seven well-made, age-matched items every two months plus a guide, from a company with no recall history and third-party safety testing.
The things to be careful about are commercial rather than product. Annual pay-as-you-go looks monthly and is a 12-month commitment. Subscription crates cannot be returned. There is no skip function, only pause. And auto-renew is on by default, with a hard 11:59 PM EST deadline the day before billing.
The thing nobody can tell you is whether your particular baby will get more out of it than the toys you already own, because that research does not exist and most of the Panda coverage online is sponsored.
Our suggestion: start on the monthly plan rather than a prepaid term. You will pay slightly more per crate, but you can see two crates before deciding whether a year of it is money well spent. That is worth more than the prepaid discount you give up.
